HEATHER PRABHU | COACH
Heather began CrossFitting in early 2007 as supplemental training for marathons & triathlons. It didn't take long for her to trade in her running shoes for lifters. While in graduate school, she began her career in fitness by working at the YMCA and coaching high school track & field. In 2009 she met her favorite CrossFit partner, Nalin, and later married him. She earned her CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certification in early 2010 and has been coaching CrossFit classes ever since. In addition to CrossFit, Heather has been a group fitness instructor, personal trainer, and high school coach. Heather has enjoyed CrossFit all these years because of the challenge it presents, requiring both mental and physical strength. She likes to see others embrace and overcome the challenges of CrossFit as well.
Why do you coach at ChalkDust?
I coach at ChalkDust because of the community! The atmosphere is fun and positive. I love helping people work on goals and watching them achieve things they never thought possible.
What do you like to do outside of the box?
I love puppies! I love to hang out with my husband, Nalin, and our dog, Bosco. We go to parks, take hikes, and go swimming!
What's your favorite hero/benchmark WOD?
Grace. It's a barbell only WOD and can be super FAST! I love the short, barbell WODs!
What's your weakest lift? What are you doing to get better/stronger in that area?
Snatch. I try to work on mobility, drills, and practice the lift weekly. Deadlifts use to be a weak lift for me, but by practicing the movement and adding in accessory work, I've gotten more comfortable with it.
What's your biggest accomplishment? (Inside or outside the gym)
My biggest accomplishment outside of the gym would probably be diving to the bottom of the ocean in a submersible! (I was an oceanographer in a previous life...).
